Tatiana Maslany was the winner of a Canadian Screen Award for ‘Best Performance by an Actress’ in The Other Half. Awards were handed out last night during a televised gala from the Sony Centre in Toronto, Canada. Maslany is best know for her star turn in BBC America’s and Space’s TV drama, Orphan Black.
Also nominated for a Canadian Screen Award was The Other Half supporting cast member Henry Czerny (‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role’).
The Other Half had an impressive premiere at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival, and was released theatrically in Canada in December 2016 by Mongrel Media. The film was picked-up by distributor Brainstorm Media for release in U.S. theatres and on VOD, beginning March 10, 2017. It can currently be streamed on iTunes in the US and Canada.
The Other Half has been garnering good reviews from U.S. media:
“Tatiana Maslany and Tom Cullen anchor a quiet mental health drama…” — Steve Greene, Indie Wire
“The Other Half, Canadian filmmaker Joey Klein’s impressive feature debut, is an example of its worth, a granular depiction of trauma, illness and protectiveness disguised as a love story and guided by a pair of intense portrayals.” — Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times
“Joey Klein, the director and screenwriter, making his feature debut, draws rich dynamics from the relationship… Mr. Klein is aided inestimably by his cinematographer, Bobby Shore, who has a gift for dark, voluptuous compositions and impressionistic flourishes. And Mr. Klein is well served by his actors, who exude conviction, charisma and palpable ardor.” — Andy Webster, The New York Times
