New figures from Pew Internet suggest that Internet users will pay for content online — and a that a clear majority are already doing just that.

According to the report nearly two-thirds (65%) of U.S. Internet users have paid for some form of online content. Music and software were the most commonly purchased types of content, with one-third of users having paid to download or access each online. Those were followed by mobile apps (21%), digital games (19%), newspapers, magazines or articles (18%), videos, movies, or TV shows (16%) and ringtones (15%).

Users between the ages of 30 and 49 were most likely to purchase most types of content (with the exception of games), as were users with a college degree and those in higher income brackets. The average amount individuals paid for content was approximately $47 per month, but the amount is skewed by some extremely high end users. Most spend about $10 per month.
